Meet Zakiyyah Ibrahim, LGPC

Practicing since: 2024
Zakiyyah graduated from Loyola University with a Masterβs degree in Clinical Psychology. Growing up in Sierra Leone, West Africa, after the civil war inspired her to pursue a career in mental health counseling. Witnessing limited access to mental health services and disparities in care across gender and race motivated her to help provide more equitable and culturally responsive support.
Zakiyyah has specialized training and expertise in the treatment of anxiety disorders and eating disorders through her work and training with The Renfrew Center. Her experience equips her to provide evidence-based, compassionate care tailored to individuals navigating these complex challenges. Overall, Zakiyyahβs approach to treatment integrates a range of evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Humanistic Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Zakiyyah gravitates toward a humanistic, collaborative style that prioritizes connection and cultural understanding, creating a space where clients feel comfortable, seen, and genuinely understood.
Zakiyyah strives to create a safe, respectful, and supportive space where clients feel heard, valued, and understood. Her goal is for clients to leave each session with greater self-awareness and practical tools they can apply in everyday life to support meaningful, lasting change from a holistic perspective. Grounded in ethics, integrity, attentiveness, and kindness, Zakiyyah approaches each client with compassion while fostering growth, healing, and empowerment.
Zakiyyah Ibrahim, LGPC, is licensed in the state of Maryland (#LGP15758) and under the clinical supervision of Denise Adams, LCPC (#LC9358).
